A family tradition that has continued for over 70 years and has made Cardinetti Trapuntificio a company known throughout the province of Verona for the quality of its products and the specialization of its advice. This month Dorsal has chosen to present this reality as store of the month. Opening the showroom doors to us is owner Pierangela together with her four employees.
Can you tell us the history of your store?
It was 1946 when Pietro Cardinetti, my grandfather, created a wool processing company, La Carderia. Then, in 1972 my mother Berta (also the daughter of a textile entrepreneur) with the support of my father Egidio decided to open a mattress and quilt store. The store grew, evolving and expanding its offerings: in addition to mattresses and quilts it also began to sell bed bases (with legs), household and personal linens. Today we are in the third generation: in fact, I joined the family business in 1989 and have taken the reins of the store since 1998.
Have you known Dorsal for many years?
Yes, for over 35 years. In fact, I remember that Dorsal was the first company in Italy to make bed bases (with legs). It was its original patent that made us curious at the time and made us approach this company. I remember in those days there was still Mr. Moretti. You think my mother Berta even had to take an additional license in "appliances" to be able to sell the bed bases (with legs) because they were classified that way. So our acquaintance with Dorsal really goes back to the beginning of our business. And it has continued through all these years.
What do you think about Dorsal?
It is a very good company, the best when it comes to slats. For several years then, we have also been keeping some of the Dorsal mattresses on display, which we chose because they are made from natural materials. We take great pride in being able to sell quality products like Dorsal's.
In the store, what Dorsal products do you keep?
We place a lot of emphasis on motorised slatted bases (with legs), and among the mattresses, the ones we most recommend to our customers are the elisir line and the Etoile and Antares mattresses.
With respect to the environmental certifications obtained by Dorsal, what do you think? Do customers appreciate this attention to the environment?
In our view, customers often do not come into the store with the clear idea that they are asking for a product made from certified wood. However, when we explain that Dorsal bed bases (with legs) are all made with wood from controlled forests, we note that this is definitely one more plus point for Dorsal. In our area, in fact, there has been a lot of talk about the danger of marketing wood from unsafe areas, such as Chernobyl, either for furniture use or as firewood, so when we go and explain to customers that instead all the wood used by Dorsal is certified, traceable, and comes from safe forests where controlled replanting is also implemented, they are definitely favorably impressed.
What happens at the time of mattress testing?
Often customers still don't know what they want for their total well-being sleep. So we make them try the different types of mattresses: traditional spring mattress, pocket-spring mattress, memory... So they can experience the differences. But testing is not enough, we try to give them the right advice by evaluating the person's characteristics. The climate of our geographical area is also to be taken into account, because it is very humid and in summer it can be very hot and muggy. So if a person suffers a lot from the heat, we recommend evaluating Elixir. Otherwise, we often recommend the Etoile mattress because it is supportive and cozy, fitting for people who sleep on their side and does not overheat the body. We note that usually, even upon testing, this Dorsal mattress gives a pleasant feeling to those who lie on it.
Is there any particular anecdote, perhaps of any customer who has been satisfied with a product or who has solved a problem related to their sleep or posture thanks to Dorsal?
Usually, when a customer comes back to buy the same mattress for their son and elderly parents as well--it means that our advice was good. And with us, it often happens that there is this word of mouth. Specifically, then I remember the case of a person who had come to the store because he was suffering from shoulder pain and was going to have surgery soon. Since he could not rest well, however, he thought before he asked us for advice, and thanks to that mattress we sold him, he postponed the operation later in the day because at night the pain had lessened and he was able to rest better. It was a great satisfaction for us on a professional level!
We then happen to tell our customers that if they are not satisfied with the mattress they purchased we are willing to change the type of foam at our expense. But this, in many years, has never happened, a sign that those who follow our advice and buy a quality mattress are always satisfied.
